Product Lifecycle Management
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an enterprise solution that brings together a number of activities required to build and support the product throughout its lifetime. The product life cycle begins at the earliest stages of customer requirements and product concept and extends until a product is obsolete and field support has ended. PLM includes the definition of the complete product and manufacturing processes, from mechanical and electronic components to software and documentation. Five key high-level areas make up the major components of PLM.
 
  • Customer Needs Management focuses on the capability to capture customer requirements and examine the ability to design and manufacture a product at a profitable price.
  • Collaborative Product Design focuses on the interactive design process, sharing designs with the suppliers and team members, navigating to related information from the design, and importing design changes in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Product Portfolio Management is used to monitor multiple product development programs with access to financials, milestone tracking, risk, etc.
  • Product Data Management focuses on managing and controlling the engineering data through engineering change management, full configuration control, and navigation and searching of product structure information.
  • Direct Materials Sourcing focuses on the sourcing process with Request for Quotation (RFQ), bid analysis, and sharing of drawings.
